Whisky Review: Benromach 10 Year Old 100° Proof

May is Whisky Review Month at WhiskySuggest.com. During this month, we’ll share 10 of the most entertaining, informative, unique or spot-on whisk(e)y reviews with the rest of the world. Every three days, a whisky review of one of the 50,000+ Whisky Suggest App users is selected as Featured Whisky Review. Today we’re sharing praisethepasta‘s tasting notes of Benromach 10 Year Old 100° Proof.

Impressive whisky, quite a different animal than the classic 10 year old at 43% ABV. An absolute belter of a whisky, but not for the fainthearted as this takes you on quite a ride.

Red fruits and fruitcake with spices, with peat lingering in the background, grainy and nutty. when adding water it develops into a more rounded nose, with the fruit even more prominent.

Dry arrival, rather different than the nose. the same elements are present but the balance is altogether different: the peat is more prominent and I picked up a lot more spicy notes. After adding water the balance is somewhat restored, and when you give it another 15 minutes a lot of woody and nutty notes march to the front to add some more complexity to the already impressive party..

Long and sticky with peat, wood and nuts dominating.

  • Great review! I have some Benromach organic 2010 (bottled 2018) and can’t wait to get stuck in after all the good things I’ve heard about this distillery!
