Abov the Noise – February 2023

February 2023 – Issue #5

We're Not Abov Listening to Your Feedback

You have spoken and we have heard you. After the move to Abov the single most-missed feature from the legacy app was the personal notes section. Used in a variety of ways, you were not happy when it disappeared. We knew we needed to bring this back ASAP so we put it on the express track in development and got it out into your hands last week. Cheers!

Now onto the rest of the whiskey world!
It is clear that a requirement of these 1950s Ancient Age ads was a threatening aura. Also, Abov users will tell you that there are MANY better bourbons to buy.
INDUSTRY NEWS

The "BOOM"GRASS State

Big news came out in December that two of the mid-sized distilleries in Kentucky will be undergoing dramatic expansions. Jefferson’s, famous for its well-traveled ocean series, will see the bigger of the two moves and switch from contract distilling to self-distilling. Willett, whose pot still is known by its other name: ‘that really cool bottle’, will see expanded proofing and production facilities. With nearly $350M between these two, the Bluegrass state is really booming!

The Hitchhiker's Guide to Whiskey

Our CEO Sean takes it as a personal offence when simple truths about whiskey remain unknown. This fight against ignorance lead him to create the basis for a whiskey knowledge base on our website. WHAT'S IN YOUR GLASS?

Johnnie Walker Red Label

Some say the month of February is the true depth of winter in the Northern Hemisphere, where people feel most saddened by the cold weather and short days. You all have been choosing a drink to match. One of the lowest rated mass-market whiskies in our database with an overall rating of 52/100.

User Michal_the_best said it best with his succinct review: “Only mixing”

USER REVIEW OF THE MONTH

Engel – Stauning Rye Whisky – 79/100

“First ever Danish whisky and actually  a joyful one for its combination of sweet-soured notes and (rye and oak) spiced finish. Certainly worth a try.”

WHAT THE ABOV TEAM IS DRINKING

Eric – @TheMagicOtter

Bardstown the Prisoner

The Prisoner is crafted by finishing a 9 year old Tennessee bourbon in French Oak wine barrels, specifically the popular red blend, The Prisoner.

This bottle brings strong dark fruit and baking spice aromas while the palate contains cherry, blackberry, and vanilla brought on by character from the grape blend.

It’s a risk/reward for distilleries to create new finishes.  The Prisoner is an exceptional pour for anyone but especially those who enjoy exploring different whiskey finishes.

RATING: 84/100
MOST COVETED WHISK(E)Y THIS MONTH

Lagavulin 16 Year Old

This Islay classic is always high on your wishlists, but last month it topped the charts as by far as the most wishlisted whiskey. Earthy, peaty, smokey, briney, and hearty campfire are all terms the Abov community has used to describe this single malt, so if that’s your ideal glass of whiskey, Sláinte!
